Weather Update:
Irwin County Schools will be closed Monday, March 16, 2026, due to the threat of severe weather. Please stay safe and continue to monitor local weather updates as the system moves through our area tomorrow morning.
The latest update we received included a squall line early Monday morning. Medium-large hail possible. 70 mph winds. A few tornadoes possible. Discreet cells ahead of the front could have large (ef2+) tornadoes and large hail. The tornadoes along the line will be brief. Again, please make sure you have a way to get weather alerts.

Mrs. Barrs’ third graders wrapped up their heat energy unit with a hands-on investigation around campus! Students used thermal thermometers to compare temperatures of light versus dark surfaces and areas in shade versus direct sunlight. They even discovered a 10° difference between the surface sand and sand about six inches below the ground. Great real-world science learning in action!

Today, Ms. Flowers' class read a book about spring and discussed how later this month the season will change from winter to spring. Ms. Flowers discussed how the leaves and the grass will change colors and how it will get warmer. Following their discussion, the class participated in an outdoor writing activity about things that showed evidence of the seasons changing.

Taylor, a fourth grader in Mrs. Hudson's class, recently came up with the idea to start a group called “Garbage Destroyers.” The goal is simple but powerful: help keep our playground and school grounds clean while encouraging students to work together and take pride in their environment. She is actively encouraging students to make a difference on our school campus.
The legacy of Dr. Seuss is alive and well at Irwin County Elementary School! After studying opinion, students in Mrs. Kendricks' Kindergarten class were able to sample green eggs & ham. Next, students completed an activity to show their opinion of the food. The class also compiled a class graph of responses. 10 students liked green eggs and ham and 3 did not.

In Mrs. Kilbury's second grade class, students worked together to build and explore 2D and 3D shapes, using marshmallows as vertices and toothpicks as edges. As they constructed their shapes, they practiced using precise math vocabulary to describe faces, edges, vertices, and attributes. Students compared shapes, counted sides and corners, and explained the difference between flat (2D) and solid (3D) figures.
I.C.E.S. is so proud of these students' teamwork, problem-solving, and mathematical thinking!
