Mrs. Hamby’s Food Science students got hands-on in the kitchen today experimenting with different cooking methods! They explored three types of heat transfer—conduction (pan frying), convection (boiling in water), and radiation (microwave)—and compared how eggs cook in two different mediums: water and oil. This fun, tasty lab gave students a deeper understanding of science in everyday cooking!
Math was hands-on and fun in Mrs. Spell’s class today! Students worked in groups using domino cutouts to explore number combinations, then matched them to their core numeral values. Activities like this make learning math interactive and engaging while building teamwork and problem-solving skills!

The Irwin County Indians football team kicked off their Friday morning by greeting students at ICES, spreading school spirit, and positive energy to start the day. Players and coaches were on hand to encourage students and wish them a fantastic Friday, continuing a proud tradition of community involvement.
Later tonight, the Indians will hit the road to take on the Dooly County Bobcats in what promises to be an exciting matchup. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they continue their season.

A fire truck that was present at Ground Zero and aided in recovery efforts was brought to campus. Students were able to see this powerful piece of history up close and learn about the events of September 11, 2001, and the heroes who served our nation that day.
We are grateful for the chance to honor the memory of 9/11 and to help our students understand the importance of remembering this day in our nation’s history.

Encourage students to stay for after-school tutoring for additional help!
During Mr. Sneed's social studies session, a few 6th graders prepared for a quiz utilizing an interactive map.
Mrs. Hamby's Food Science class learned about Heat Transfer- Radiation today. Students used magnifying glasses to make the sun burn a hole in a sheet of paper. They learned about radiation from the sun and how a small bead of sunlight can burn through magnification. Once students returned to class, they wrote about this experience for their science portfolios.
Mrs. Warren’s 4th grade students at I.C.E.S. practiced multi-digit addition and subtraction through engaging math stations! Activities included using the part-part-whole strategy to find missing numbers, solving missing subtraction problems with technology, and matching sums and differences to reinforce key concepts.

Nykki Lee, ICHS alumna and Branch Manager for Five Star Credit Union in Ocilla, came to speak to Mrs. Haire’s business classes about all of the career opportunities within the financial, banking, and credit union industry including roles in finance, marketing, operations, sales, information technology, and human resources. Career exploration is a major component in the business education classes, and students will hear from more hometown community partners in other career fields in the near future.

This week's Chiefs of the Week at ICES goes to a grade level. This recognition was given to the fourth grade team for several reasons. This team came with a positive attitude, ready work, and provided great input during PLCs. The positive vibe made the environment conducive for sharing and learning from one another.
Other team members were recognized for going above and beyond. Mr. Gray has made sure that one of our students who had surgery over the summer was provided with a way to get back and forth with comfort. Mr. Dawson has been pivotal in greeting students and teaching them conflict resolution skills. A special shout out goes out to Mrs. Mixon. She actively participated in the PLCs, and she also displayed an act of kindness to one of her student's family.
School administrators want to thank the 4th grade team for building a positive culture in their grade level and school. Positive vibes and attitudes quickly become contagious!!!
