ICSS will be closed tomorrow. Be safe and enjoy the day off work/school!

Irwin County Elementary School recognized several staff members as "Chiefs of the Week" this week. Daphane Stevenson, Alecia Martin, Dede Stephens, and Madellen Sirmans were awarded for exemplary service to our students, families, and staff.

Mrs. Warren’s 4th grade classes at I.C.E.S. are off to a great start! Using base ten blocks, place value disks, and logical reasoning, students are learning how to regroup and rename numbers in various ways.

Today Mrs. Abby Clayton's fifth grade class enjoyed First Chapter Friday, when the students hear the first chapter of a library book that is different from what they might ordinarily try. Mrs. Clayton and Mrs. Christie Copeland, I.C.E.S. media specialist, read the beginning of a Charlie Joe Jackson book. Mrs. Clayton's students rated the book afterward and gave it a "thumbs up!" Mrs. Clayton is just one of the many I.C.E.S. teachers exploring innovative instructional strategies in English Language Arts.

Congratulations to Piper Phillips, who was officially pinned as the ICHS FCCLA Chapter President!

Celebrating Perfect Attendance in 6th Grade!
We are excited to share some wonderful news — every single 6th grader was present at school today! Having 100% attendance is a remarkable accomplishment and shows the commitment of our students and families to the importance of education.
When all students are present, it not only benefits individual learning but also strengthens the entire classroom community. Every student’s voice, participation, and energy contribute to a positive and productive school day.
We are proud of our 6th grade students for showing up, being engaged, and setting a strong example for the rest of our school. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue working toward more days of perfect attendance!
Together, we can make every day count.

Mrs. Jayden Paulk's 8th grade science classes enjoyed a presentation about Energy and Electricity from Irwin EMC. Shane Johnson and Clay Smith educated students on sources of energy, electricity transfer, and safety around electricity. Students were excited to connect their learning to real life and ask many questions about electrical energy!

NatureQuest is a new monthly (first Saturday morning each month) program that will have a different topic each month with outdoor exploration activities for children and youth. The first session on Saturday September 6th will be on Fish & Fishing. Avanlee Kennedy, an ABAC Natural Resources student, will be leading the organization for this program. Location: 3369 Moore Sawmill Rd, Alapaha GA 31622

Irwin County Schools, through the GADOE, have partnered with Parent ProTech to empower families, create safer digital habits, and strengthen school-to-home connections. Today’s students live in a tech-first world, and parents often struggle to keep up. Parent ProTech bridges that gap by providing schools with an easy-to-use platform that helps parents understand the technology their children use every day—social media, gaming, devices, and more.

Last Friday, Mrs. Bridges’ Chemistry classes learned about scientific notation, significant figures, and dimensional analysis. Students were able to figure out Grandma’s secret fudge recipe by converting different units for all of the ingredients. It was a tasty and fun lab for all!

Mrs. Hamby’s Food Science students put their teamwork to the test with a spaghetti tower challenge! This fun activity focused on problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration—key life skills. Great job, students!

Mrs. Hamby’s ECE2 students created an interactive poster board timeline to explore the History of Education. This hands-on project helped students connect past milestones in education to the progress we see today, while practicing collaboration and presentation skills.

Mrs. Griffin’s 10th grade students worked in groups to modernize Shakespeare’s Hamlet into a family group chat, taking turns “texting” on paper back and forth as the characters in the play. Love the creativity involved in putting a modern spin on a classic.
