Title I, Part A
Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged
Title I, Part A is a part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Title I, Part A is the largest federally funded program for elementary, middle, and high schools. Money is allocated to school districts based on the number of low-income families in each district. Each district uses Title I money to provide services for children most in need of educational help.
Irwin County School System has three schools: Irwin Elementary, Irwin Middle, and Irwin High. All three schools are school-wide Title I schools and receive additional federal funding to support instruction.
The Irwin County School System is engaged in continuous school improvement as part of our responsibility with Title I funding. For more information about individual schools, please visit the school websites to view school improvement and parent involvement plans.
Foster Care Provisions
The Foster Care Program focuses on school access, improved educational outcomes, and enhanced academic stability for children and youth in foster care. The provisions derived from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) establish guidelines for recognizing and addressing the unique needs of foster care children and youth. The Foster Care Program has the responsibility of working closely with local child welfare agencies and local educational agencies to identify children and youth in foster care and to ensure the successful implementation of ESSA provisions.
